For generations Dameron Hospital has been the choice for the Stockton, California community, providing committed health care for neighbors and families since 1912. Today they are the largest employer in the greater San Joaquin valley.
However Dameron was at a crossroads. Their vendor for financial reporting, SAP AG, had discontinued providing support or updates for their Business Objects / SRC software. Not only was Dameron's existing software outdated, it lacked the flexibility Dameron needed to meet its specific planning and reporting goals. "With our old software, we couldn't design or develop budget templates for specific departments and cost centers within the hospital," explains Bill Chase, Director of Accounting. The reporting process was equally problematic, as it required significant manual effort to run, print, and distribute month-end reports. A county government's missions are as varied as they are numerous. More than 150 different occupations are involved in delivering public services that citizens come to expect. Given the absence of an integrated business solution software, the county's information system is unavoidably complex.
For Walker County, Texas County Auditor Patricia Allen, the above situation led to all sorts of vertical information management environments in which each application had its own separate infocenter and universe.
